Mission: To champion the connection of needed community resources with schools to help young people successfully learn, stay in school and prepare for life.

Vision: To enrich our community through initiatives that empower all students to achieve academic success, thus providing a foundation for them to realize their full potential, dreams, and aspirations.  A dynamic, purposeful new generation will flourish, bringing greater confidence, insight, and imagination to the responsibilities and promise of democratic citizenship.

OBJECTIVE: To reduce the drop-out rate in Federal Way and assist the schools in helping students become prepared for college or work after school.  However, in order to thrive, children need access to the basics—adult guidance, help with homework, proper nutrition and preventative health care.  Unfortunately many kids lack these essentials.  These are the kids who are most likely to fall behind and once behind, often drop out.

Strategies: Seek funds from individual, corporations and foundations that support educational efforts in our community. Allowing the Foundation to provide and increase funding to programs throughout the Federal Way community

OBJECTIVE: Increase community awareness of the Federal Way Education & Communities In Schools Foundation.

Strategies: At Communities In Schools, we focus on meeting these core needs—needs that can often be overlooked by traditional support programs. We work closely with local school districts, social service organizations and businesses to connect schools with the resources that facilitate academic success and the development of important life skills.

We do this at critical junctures in a child’s development, and in situations that cannot be ignored. We know that many issues can be resolved before they turn into problems. CIS intervention can be as simple as providing eyeglasses to a child who needs them, or as intensive as a weekly meeting with a caring adult mentor.

In the end our goal is to provide the support systems that other kids have—essentials that allow them to focus on learning and achieving their potential.
